Classical Acupuncture and Herbal Therapy
Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) treats the cause of illness and seeks whole health. It is a future-oriented medicine that is rooted in ancient Chinese wisdom. The essential difference between classical Chinese medicine and other forms of medicine (including TCM, or Traditional Chinese Medicine) is that it follows the way of nature and cosmos, seeks to do no harm to the holistic integrity of the patient, and supports the entire human being individually.
Michael Givens, L.Ac, a CCM practitioner and teacher (Valley-Spirit School), diagnoses and treats based upon his understanding of the healing powers of nature and human physiology in the context of the whole person. He is therefore able to work with physical, physiological, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the human being. Through attentive observation, specific inquiry, palpation of the quality of the pulse and other vessels in the body, he arrives at an understanding of the underlying nature of a person’s health and illness and helps each person individually find an integrated, holistic balance.
Treatment consists of a complete system of modalities, including acupuncture, herbal formulas, cupping therapy, moxibustion (warming therapy with mugwort application), poultices, wraps, soaks, salves, dietary guidance, movement therapy, life nourishment methods and counseling, and meditations.
