Classical Acupuncture and Herbal Therapy
Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) treats the cause of illness and seeks whole health. It is a future-oriented medicine that is rooted in ancient Chinese wisdom. The essential difference between classical Chinese medicine and other forms of medicine (including TCM, or Traditional Chinese Medicine) is that it follows the way of nature and cosmos, seeks to do no harm to the holistic integrity of the patient, and supports the entire human being individually.
Practitioners of CCM diagnose based upon an understanding of the healing powers of nature and human physiology in the context of the whole person, including the physical, physiological, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the human being. Through attentive observation, specific inquiry, palpation of the quality of the pulse and other vessels in the body, they come to an understanding of the underlying nature of a person’s health and illness.
Treatment consists of a variety of modalities, including acupuncture, herbal formulas, cupping therapy, moxibustion (warming therapy with mugwort application), poultices, wraps, soaks, salves, dietary guidance, movement therapy, life nourishment methods, and meditations.
Initial visits are 1 hour in length and entail a complete consultation according to classical Chinese medicine diagnostic methodology. Depending on each patient’s needs, acupuncture or other therapies will be offered during this visit, and follow up visit needs will be determined.
Follow up visits are 45 minutes (for acupuncture treatment), or 30 minutes (for an herbal consultation only).
